WHAT IS NECK STRAIGHTENING? WHAT PROBLEMS DOES IT CAUSE?

Currently, the problem of neck straightening is observed quite often, since the use of smartphones, tablets and computers has become very widespread. If there is no problem when the cervical spine (neck) is viewed from the side of an X-ray, it looks like a light letter “C”. In people with neck flattening, the slight “C”-shaped curve disappears, and the neck spine takes on a flat shape. Turkey Medicals member and physiotherapist gave information about the subject. SYMPTOMS OF NECK FLATTENING

When the neck flattens, the biomechanics of the spine deteriorates and pressure on the nerve-vessels in the neck may occur. Depending on the localization and severity of the pressure that occurs, various symptoms occur.

.
AS A RESULT OF THE PRESSURE THAT OCCURS ON THE NERVES, SOME SYMPTOMS APPEAR

– Pain or burning around the neck

– Back pain

– Headache

– Chronic fatigue

– Restriction of neck movements

– The neck is more prominent than usual

– Weakness in the arms

– Having difficulty carrying the head

– The feeling of heaviness in the head and neck

– Loss of strength and function in the arms

Neck problems can cause back, waist and even hip problems by chain reactions.

Neck flattening, called cervical lordosis flattening in medicine, is often found on MRI or X-ray examinations. If neck flattening is not treated, problems such as hunchback, scoliosis hernia, arthrosis (calcification), canal narrowing and muscle pain may also occur in people.

If there is pressure on the vessels during neck straightening, psychological cognitive and emotional problems may be observed, as well as physical discomfort.

.
PSYCHOLOGICAL COGNITIVE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH NECK STRAIGHTENING

– Forgetfulness

– Intolerance

– Loss of self-confidence

– Inability to concentrate

– Mental fatigue

– Unhappiness

– Anxiety disorder

1 or more of these symptoms may occur in a person.

The most common cause of neck flattening is the use of technological devices and long hours of little-moving overtime at the desk all the time.

.
SOME OTHER PROBLEMS THAT CAN CAUSE NECK FLATTENING ARE

– Osteoarthritis (calcification)

– Osteoporosis (bone resorption)

– Degenerative disc disease

– Rheumatic diseases

– Accidents, blows, sports injuries

– Tumors, infections in the corresponding area

– Undergone neck, back and chest surgeries

– Spinal shift, narrowing of the canal

Neck straightening is not a negligible innocent problem. Treatment should not be delayed after the diagnosis is made by the attending physician. Great success is achieved in the treatment of neck flattening with the help of clinical exercises, kinesiological taping and adjustments to be made in everyday life, which will be accompanied by physiotherapists. Even if neck flattening does not cause pain or movement problems at an early stage, it should be treated.
