CAUSES OF NASAL CONGESTION

A person with a stuffy nose tries to satisfy his curiosity in various ways, until he is diagnosed by a private hospital Specialist doctor in Turkey, since the cause of his complaint is nowhere to be seen. He tries to do this either in consultation with those around him who have already received treatment with the same symptom, or, more often today, through the Internet. Nasal congestion is a symptom. In order to understand the causes that led to this symptom, I must first introduce the nose and its functioning a little. Our nose is a structure covered with skin on the outside, with some muscles under it, muscles inside is covered with a mucous membrane, its roof and its components are formed by bone and cartilage tissues. These tissues form the septum that divides the nose in half from the middle, the nasal flesh (decans), the passages between them and the sinus cavities. The mucous membrane covering all these formations filters, warms and moisturizes the respiratory air entering the nose in an orderly manner with the secretions it produces. It works with an excellent system that captures and removes dust and particles from the air, which we call “mucociliary activity”. On the other hand, the lower nasal flesh swells and descends sequentially in three-hour periods from right to left with the nasal cycle (nasal cycle). Therefore, any anatomical disorder in the structures, as well as conditions affecting the mucous membrane and these systems, can lead to nasal congestion.

In this case, I will try to write down almost all the possibilities, together with their synonym (synonyms), as much as possible, breathlessly and successively. If I try to give explanations of all of them, or a translation of their medical names in this article, I have to write as much as the content of a book. I have included some of these in my previous articles and videos; anyone who wishes can read or watch them. My goal here is for you to see how different and numerous the conditions that can lead to nasal congestion are.

Causes of nasal congestion: Nasal flesh growth (concha hypertrophy), curvature of the middle section (septum deviation – bone, cartilage, or combined curvatures), kolumella luksasyon, and allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and exposure to harmful gases or substances with the use of hookah smoking, environmental pollution, alcohol use, climate-heat changes in humidity, dry air, the nasal cycle (the cycle of the nose), affecting the circulatory system and the cycle of the nose/nasal decongestant sprays and even congestion, which leads to a variety of drugs, autonomic nervous system dysfunction, in the outstretched position, the diurnal rhythm of the body, Concha bullosa, withdrawal (reverse curved middle turbinate, middle turbinate poliplesmes the medialize unsinat process, narrow Piriform aperture, valve stenosis, nasal deformity alarm/malposition, type of deformity, the hardcover thin or thick cartilaginous nasal wings, and nasal fracture challenging inspiratory nasal septum perforation, cold (common cold), flu (influenza) and covid19, including viral infections, bacterial infections and fungal infections, sinusitis, acute (new onset), chronic sinusitis and chronic sinusitis – sinusitis polyps (nasal polyposis), Samter triad, oroantral fistula/odontogenic sinusitis, allergic sinusitis, fungal sinusitis, etc.), chronic rhinitis, mucoid (intensive-sticky) secretes, the rinotilleksoman (nose picking), stress-psychological status,nose bleeding/clots, crusting of the nasal mucosa, dry, edema (swelling), hyperplasia, polyps, it is therefore Kartagener syndrome (silia immotil syndrome), cystic fibrosis, sinus or nasal foreign body (dental implants, dental fillings, toy parts, chickpeas, time, battery, etc.), rinolit (stone of the nose), hormonal conditions, pregnancy, fever (rhinitis of pregnancy), nutrition (food intolerance, spices), excess weight, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, thyroid disease, Churg-Strauss syndrome and other vasculitis, and granulomatous diseases, atypical infections, papilloma, inverted papilloma, such as osteoma, and other benign bone tumors (benign) tumors, lymphoma, meningocele, meningoensefalosel, nasal cancer, adenoid growth (adenoid hypertrophy), hemangioma, and vascular formations alike anjiofibro nasopharyngeal, nasal cancer, due to previous surgeries, empty nose syndrome, the middle meatus block adhesions, early postoperative period, tampon placement, radiation therapy, ozena (atrophic rhinitis), Thornwaldt cyst, coanal atresia (closure of the posterior part of the nose), etc.

These diseases and conditions are assessed based on the patient’s age, general state of health, and the presence of transplantation symptoms. In a patient, more than one can be found together; many can be diagnosed by seeing them during an endoscopic examination. If necessary, research is carried out using imaging methods such as tomography or MRI. A biopsy sample can be taken for pathological examination in formations that look suspicious. Physiological conditions often do not require treatment. Not all visible disorders may necessarily need to be corrected. Simple conditions can be improved by regulating habits and treatments that include nasal spray. Some of them require treatment with medications and long-term follow-up; in those who do not improve, surgery can be planned in cases where passages are blocked or in mass formations. Malignant ones are managed by oncological treatments. Some diseases, on the other hand, require the support of non-ENT branches; some rare conditions may not be treated.

As it turned out, the causes that lead to the appearance of a symptom of nasal congestion are very diverse, and their treatment is also different. The patients also said, “I have this disease, will it be fixed for sure with this treatment or surgery in Turkey?” they also ask. Even if we accept that the diagnoses are correct, the severity of the diseases and their response to the treatments given may be different. Since the range of possibilities is so wide, it would be right for patients with nasal congestion to find a specialist they can trust and take the first step towards determining the solution as an endoscopic examination.
