Since ancient times fungi have been used as food and medicine for many diseases. There are approximately 5000 species of fungi in the world. The most widely produced mushroom species is Agaricus bisporus. This species is a white-capped cultured mushroom that is widely grown and sold in Turkey. Recent scientific research has also found that the ingredients obtained from fungi have therapeutic (therapeutic) effects. So what are they?

It can strengthen the immune system and protect health. It has an anti-inflammatory and anticancer effect thanks to the Selenium mineral it contains.

It is a source of Beta-glucan, thereby helping to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is one of the rare herbal foods containing vitamin D.

It is a good source of antioxidants. It helps to protect brain and skin health with its antioxidant effect. Mushrooms with the most antioxidant effect are white mushrooms.

Thanks to its copper mineral content, it reduces the risk of anemia, weakness and bone diseases. A substance called choline found in the fungus has an effect that helps strengthen sleep, memory and learning.

In individuals diagnosed with diabetes, it helps to lower blood sugar levels and increase insulin resistance.

CALORIES AND NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF MUSHROOM

When evaluated in terms of nutrition, low calorie content, as well as essential amino acids, carbohydrates, fiber, essential vitamins (A, B, C, D, and K) and minerals (iron, phosphorus,selenium, zinc, calcium, copper, magnesium, potassium) rich. They are especially rich in vitamin B; Riboflavin (B2), folate (B9), thiamine (B1), pantothenic acid (B5), niacin (B3). EFFECT OF MUSHROOM CONSUMPTION ON CANCER

Currently, fungi are used as reinforcing nutrients for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. It is the most recommended reinforcing food, especially for cancer patients. Because fungi have an effect that regulates the immune system and prevents the formation of tumors. In recent years, the positive effect of certain types of fungi on cancer has been proven by more and more studies.

Fungal species exhibit their anti-cancer effects due to their immunomodulatory properties. Polysaccharides and Beta-glucan are among the components that provide this property of the fungus. It also helps reduce the side effects of chemotherapy in people who have cancer and receive chemotherapy. At the very beginning of these side effects are nausea, anemia and weakening of the immune system. At the same time, thanks to the conjugated linoleic acid found in it, it can have a beneficial effect against breast and prostate cancer.

Besides the beneficial effects of fungi with high phytobesin content, they have quite few side effects and can be easily tolerated by the body. The most effective type of fungus on cancer is the red reishi mushroom. This type of fungus helps macrophage cells in the immune system fight cancer. After regular consumption, it also helps substances with an anti-cancer effect in the human body.
