PRODUCED AT THE UNIVERSITY, SOLD FOR THOUSANDS OF TURKISH LIRA
Interest in medicinal mushrooms has increased, especially reishi mushrooms produced at Düzce University. These mushrooms go on sale for TL 1,000 a kilo.
Interest in medicinal mushrooms in Turkey, especially reishi mushrooms, which have started to be grown within the Duzce University traditional and Complementary Medicine Center, has increased. Participants in courses organized for medicinal mushroom cultivation try to learn mushroom cultivation.
Turkey medical mushrooms, which were produced and cultured in the traditional and complementary medical center of Düzce University, attracted the attention of citizens. Both those who wanted to learn how to grow mushrooms and contribute to household budgets started medical mushroom growing courses. In particular, trainees who attend courses for the red reishi mushroom, known as the mushroom of immortality and sold for 500 thousand TL a kilo, learn to plant, produce and compost mushrooms.
Director of Düzce University traditional and Complementary Medicine Center Prof. Dr, expressing interest in the courses, said: “We have come to a certain stage in our work in the production of Medicinal Mushrooms. Currently, we provide medical mushroom cultivation training to our citizens in order to spread our work. For this purpose, we organize courses. There is a strong demand for medical mushroom farming courses. We have considered a course for our region, but there is participation from many provinces. Eskisehir, Samsun, Elazig, Siirt, such as the provinces come and participate. There’s a lot of demand because we do it in small groups. We often repeat courses. There is a great interest in the cultivation of species of medicinal fungi that are not grown very much in our country. Their material gains will also be appropriate. Growing and selling mushrooms are professional issues. We also provide training in these subjects. We also support those who want to produce and develop products,” he said.
Prof. Dr. “Many of the Turkish medicinal mushrooms are also used as food,” he said. When used as food, prices fall when there are too many producers. It’s about winning from the pack. But prices are rising for mushrooms used only for medicinal purposes. These mushrooms are also difficult to sell. Only those in need get it when it’s sold medically, not as food. The most popular mushroom is known as reishi mushroom. Wholesale prices range from 500 to thousands of TLs. But if the product is produced in Turkey from this, the price goes up a lot. In our center, we can sell up to 3 thousand TL as tea and powder form. It can happen in those who sell for more on the market. There is no upper limit on the price,” was said.
