10 SYMPTOMS OF LUNG CANCER

It is worth noting that lung cancer ranks first among cancer-related deaths all over the world. In almost a quarter of patients, lung cancer occurs without symptoms. But conditions such as coughing, loss of appetite, chest pain, shortness of breath, hoarseness and difficulty swallowing, weakness, pinching of fingers, body pain, frequent recurrent infections, falling on the eyelid can be a harbinger of lung cancer.

Turkey Medicals member and hospital department Pulmonology Doctor, drew attention to the symptoms of lung cancer and made important warnings. According to the data of 2018, 1 million 760 thousand people in the world died from lung cancer, member stated, “Lung cancer, one of the causes of which is smoking, ranks first among cancer-related deaths all over the world.”

“Lung cancer occurs as a result of uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells in the lung. Lung cancer often begins to develop from a single focus in one lung, but there may also be development from multiple foci over the same time period. Cancer cells can spread to the lungs, neighboring tissues, or other parts of the body. Symptoms of lung cancer may vary depending on the location,” he said.

LUNG CANCER DEVELOPS INSIDIOUSLY IN ONE OUT OF 4 PATIENTS

The most common symptom of lung cancer is persistent coughs, says Dr. “In addition, symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, fever, hoarseness, swelling of the face and neck, shoulder and arm pain, back pain, difficulty swallowing, and bloody sputum are also signs of lung cancer. Bloody sputum, which comes with coughing, is observed in a quarter of lung cancer patients. Head and bone pain, fatigue and weakness are also common symptoms of lung cancer. Symptoms of lung cancer are sometimes quite insidious. In almost a quarter of patients, cancer occurs without any symptoms.

Usually, these people find out that they have lung cancer when they get a lung X-ray for another reason. For this reason, routine checks are vital in determining lung cancer at an early stage. If lung cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, the chances of success in its treatment are quite high. Currently, with advances in imaging techniques such as low-dose spiral computed tomography, lung cancer can now be detected at an early stage,” he said.

SYMPTOMS INCLUDE COUGHING, WEIGHT LOSS, CHEST PAIN, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, HOARS

Dr. listed the symptoms of lung cancer as follows: “Dec is among the first symptoms of lung cancer. Most often it is not given enough attention, considering that it depends on other reasons. People who complain of persistent cough that lasts more than two weeks, increases gradually, and the cause of which cannot be determined should be examined for lung cancer. In addition, the appearance of blood in the sputum or the color of the sputum is dark brown is also known as important symptoms of lung cancer.

The second place is occupied by loss of appetite and weight loss. Especially active smokers should definitely consult a doctor if they have a poor appetite. Weight loss, the cause of which is not, should also not be neglected, as it is one of the important symptoms of lung cancer. Thirdly, chest pain, which can be caused by many reasons, is actually one of the main symptoms of lung cancer. If chest pain increases when breathing deeply, coughing, or laughing, it is necessary to consult a doctor without wasting time. Respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing, which are in the fourth place, can also occur at all stages of lung cancer.

Shortness of breath, which is an important indicator of insidiously developing lung cancer, is not properly taken care of. Elderly and overweight people attribute shortness of breath to their age, while young people also note that they neglect going to the doctor because of the intensity of their work. But it should be remembered that early diagnosis of lung cancer is vital. Fifth, attention should also be paid to hoarseness and difficulty swallowing. Hoarseness and difficulty swallowing, which is one of the symptoms of lung cancer, can also be caused by many reasons, just like other symptoms. A doctor should be consulted when hoarseness develops, which develops without a condition such as a cold.”

.
WEAKNESS, TINGLING IN THE FINGERS, FALLING ON THE EYELID

Dr. concluded his remarks as follows: “Weakness is in the sixth place. Among the symptoms that should not be missed in lung cancer rapid fatigue, constant feeling of fatigue and weakness. If the weakness that can be caused by many reasons, from iron deficiency anemia, which is very common in Turkey, to seasonal conditions, from the intense hustle and bustle of daily life to psychological problems, negatively affects daily life and is accompanied by respiratory complaints, a lung scan should be performed.

A lump in the seventh row, caused by swelling and rounding of the soft tissue at the ends of the fingers and toes, can occur in many diseases, as well as in lung cancer. The eighth item is body pain. If the cancer has spread, back, shoulder, shoulder blade, arm, leg pain or severe headache if it has spread to the brain are important symptoms. An increase in glands on the neck and collarbone, on the other hand, can especially indicate lung cancer. In the ninth place are also frequent recurrent infections. Frequent recurrence and non-healing of respiratory tract infections such as the bronchitis and pneumonia are also symptoms. In particular, those who have been smoking one pack of cigarettes a day for more than 15 years or who have not passed 15 years since they stopped smoking should definitely get screened once a year.

Finally, decapitation of the eyelid is one of the symptoms. A mass that settles in the upper part of the lung can cause pain in the arm and shoulder, hoarseness, low eyelids, pressing on some nerves. A drop in the eyelid and a decrease in the pupil, as well as a lack of sweating on the same side of the face, may indicate cancer. This condition is known as Horner syndrome. If one or more of these symptoms are observed, a pulmonologist in Turkey should be contacted in no time.”
