WHO PERFORMED YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL PROCEDURE? ‘ I WAS BURNED BY HIGH DEGREE OF SHOOTING ‘ THE TRACKS ARE STILL THERE

Thousands of people get laser hair removal every day. So are there any risks to the application? Recently, by the decision of the Tenth Department of the Turkish State Council, the use of hair removal devices in beauty salons was canceled. Why was this decision made, What does it mean? Turkey Medicals asked medical Hospital member Expert Turkish Dermatologist, and got their comments…

Turkey ‘holiday package’ or ‘medical tourism’ under Hair removal treatment comes across as one of the most common beauty practices of recent years. Especially the hair removal process, which is in high demand by women, has been attracting men’s attention lately. When there is so much demand, the places where hair removal is performed are also increasing rapidly. The increase is so fast that the number of ‘beauty salons’ and ‘esthetic centers’ has exceeded 100 thousand throughout Turkey.

Procedures in these beauty salons are performed by the so called ‘cosmetologists’ and ‘aestheticians’. Although there are Top medical hospitals where procedures are performed under the supervision of ‘dermatologists’ but nowadays in most places are ‘non-specialists’ who have become eager in performing such sensitive procedures.

This issue has also moved to the judiciary. The Turkish Society of Dermatology and the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery filed a lawsuit for the cancellation of the regulation allowing the use of hair removal devices in beauty salons.

The case was concluded recently. The State Council has canceled the regulation that allows the use of a number of devices in beauty salons, in a lawsuit filed by the Tenth Chamber, dermatologists and aesthetic surgeons. The Department canceled both articles of the regulation published in the Turkish Official Gazette on March 30, 2017.

The reason for the cancellation of the Head of Department was as follows in the decision: “The use of the device by people without medical qualifications leads to serious health problems. Services such as laser hair removal, photo hair removal, skin care are provided by dermatologists and Turkish university degree ‘aesthetic surgery specialists.”

.
DEVICES ARE FORBIDDEN TO USE EXCEPT FOR THREE GROUPS OF DOCTORS

Turkey Medicals medical hospital member and Turkish Dermatological Prof. Doctor emphasized that the most basic reason for the opening of the case is human health and said, “I must state very clearly that the places where hair removal is performed under the name of beauty salon are not medical enterprises. Municipalities also conduct inspections of these halls. Laser devices are medical devices, and doctors in Turkey can also use medical devices,” he said.

Dermatological Prof. Doctor said that only ‘three groups of Turkish doctors’ have rights to perform medical aesthetic and cosmetic procedures according to the Turkish law. “The three groups of doctors have medical aesthetics, cosmetics (laser, filler, Botox, PRP, etc.) have the right to take action in Turkey: (1) plastic surgery specialists, (2) dermatologists and certified (3) physicians,” said Doctor, not even Turkish doctors, aestheticians, and Medical Aesthetic Cosmetic Procedures outside of these three groups to practice does not have authority said.

.
THERE ARE RISKS OF THE PROCEDURE NOT PERFORMED BY THE DOCTOR

However, in more and more beauty salons in Istanbul and Antalya, people with the title of esthetician or beautician perform these procedures. Turkey Dermatological Prof. Doctor mentioned that some risks occur in the applications made by these people and said:

“Especially the burn problem is the most common risk. We have Mester patient tip line, to send pictures of burns to this line, they complain to us. That’s exactly why the case was filed. Our priority was that the public would not face such problems and would not be affected.”

.
WE RECOMMEND THAT HAIR REMOVAL BE DONE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A DOCTOR

Dermatological Prof. Doctor said that this decision does not mean that aestheticians are out of their jobs, they can work under the supervision of a doctor. “These operations should be carried out properly, in competent hands, so that people do not get hurt. We actually recommend that hair removal be performed under the supervision of a doctor,” said:

“The doctor must see the patient, evaluate him, determine the dose for administration. After these checks, an esthetician trained in the subject can perform the procedure under the supervision of a doctor. Procedures need to be carried out strictly under the supervision of a doctor, people who work in a beauty salon should never do it alone. In some cases, the doctor may also perform the procedure himself during the session, stand by the esthetician, or he may not need to go to the session at all.”

Dermatological Prof. Doctor insisted that hair removal is a medical procedure and said, “There is also a possibility of complications during the procedure. For complications such as redness, burns, the hospital Turkish doctor can treat, while an esthetician cannot. It is a very big problem that people who are not Turkish doctors are supposed to use medical devices,” he said.

.
IT IS A HAIR-SPECIFIC TREATMENT, THERE IS NO HARM

One of the most curious things about hair removal is the question of whether it has any harm. This is the question we asked Prof. Doctor in Turkey said, “Since hair removal is a hair-specific treatment, its effects are also limited. For this reason, there is also no case of harm to the body, health. But it should be done manually, it should be controlled, let me underline this thoroughly,” he replied.

.
AND WHAT ABOUT DEVICES THAT ARE APPLIED AT HOME?

Recently, hair removal devices that a person can apply on his own at home have also become popular. So what is the result of using these devices?

The effectiveness of these devices is not much. We can say that the wax acts as much as a click above. However, if it is not used properly, these devices also run the risk of creating burns

.
THE PLACES THAT GUARANTEE THE END ARE LYING

There are also places that guarantee an end when selling hair removal packages. Turkey Medicals member and Professor Doctor of Hospital Head Department of Dermatology said, “The places that guarantee the end are lying. Because only one device is used during hair removal, and it is out of the question that the end will take place literally. It is necessary to combine several different methods for complete decoupling. It is necessary to combine several methods, such as electric hair removal in one part, diode laser in another, Alexandrite laser in another. There is no complete end with a single device,” he said.

.
THE RIGHT HAIR REMOVAL IS DONE WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE

Turkey Medicals also answered the question of whether hair removal is harmful for patients as follows: “Hair removal can be safely done to all parts of the body. But the right hair removal is done with the right people. Before the procedure, the person should be seen by a dermatologist and evaluated for compliance with laser hair removal. After a general physical examination, it is decided which device to use for laser hair removal according to the person’s skin type, hair distribution and hair type.” was said.

.
TO WHOM CAN THE HAIR REMOVAL PROCEDURE NOT BE PERFORMED?

Turkey Medicals member medical hospital member Specialist Dermatological lists who can be done with hair removal as follows:

1- Laser hair removal is generally applied to male and female patients over the age of 18. it is not applied under the age of 15. if there is a medical decision in children over 15 years of age, this procedure is performed. Also, this procedure is not recommended for people with an active infection in their body or pregnant women who have not yet reached the sixth month.

2- In addition to these factors, there is a risk of side effects due to the fact that wound healing disorders can be observed in people who smoke and drink heavily or have diabetes.

3- In addition, laser hair removal is not performed on people with active acne and individuals with pigmentation disorders in people who have recently received radiation to the area where the procedure is planned or who have undergone chemical peeling.

4- If there are tables with excessive hair growth or increased hair growth, if necessary, these individuals are evaluated by a doctor of obstetrics and gynecology for hereditary, developmental, metabolic diseases and various cancers.

5- It is preferably not done in people with conditions such as psoriasis, as it can cause an exacerbation of the disease.

.
WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED A LOT OF CASES OF BURNS

We also asked Expert Esthetician, who said that she has been doing laser hair removal for about 20 years, about the decision of the Council of State. Expert Esthetician, who said he was working with a dermatologist at a clinic, said: “I think it was a very right decision. We have encountered so many people with burns on their bodies after the procedure that this had to be prevented,” she says.

Emphasizing that the laser hair removal process requires serious expertise, Heritage said, “For example, a person’s age, skin and hair type are important details in this process. That is why the people who will perform this operation should have the education to discriminate,” he says.

.
WHAT DO THOSE WHO HAVE HAIR REMOVAL SAY?

With the resulting decision, the hair removal procedure can no longer be performed by a dermatologist, a hospital, in places where there is no examination license. But by this time, countless people have had hair removal procedures in beauty salons. Some were satisfied, others had serious problems. Those who have hair removal in beauty salons, tell about their experience…

.
THEY SHOT HIGH, MY LEGS BURNED’’ ST AGE 29

I started laser hair removal at a beauty center four years ago. The first few sessions everything went well. When I went to the third session, I said that I had not yet seen an active reduction in hair. The person who made the application also said in response that my hair follicles are a little stiff, that if we shoot at a high degree, we will get results faster. It hurt a lot during the procedure, but I didn’t say it was normal and I didn’t make a sound. As soon as I left the salon and went home, the pain in my legs continued, as well as turning red. When the rashes became more and more, I went to the nearest pharmacy, told about the situation. The pharmacist told me that my skin was burning. I went to the dermatologist, took medication. There are still burn marks in certain places.

‘They treated me when I was tanning, I had burns on my skin,’ OD AGE 31.
