DON’T SAY HE’S A KID WHO WETS HIS PANTS!
Turkey Medicals member and hospital specialist in Child Health and diseases, doctor told us on weekend. Attention, parents! Don’t listen to similar stories and think, ‘it’ll pass when you grow up.’ Delay can lead to permanent kidney damage…
In children aged 5 and over, without gender discrimination, urinary incontinence in involuntary bed or clothing that is repetitive 2 times a week, lasting at least 3 months, is called ‘enure-free Nocturna’ in medical parlance. Physiologically, day control of the bladder in children is usually acquired at the end of 2-3 years, while Night control is acquired at 3-5 years of age.
.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES
In some families in Turkey, it can develop a little later. About 95 percent of children over the age of 5 provide urine control during the day, and 80-85 percent provide urine control at night. Types of sub-wetting: sub-wetting is divided into ‘continuous’ or ‘intermittent’ urinary incontinence. Constant urinary incontinence is a condition that refers to constant urinary incontinence, dripping, and often requires suspecting the presence of congenital problems. If it is intermittent urinary incontinence; it indicates urinary incontinence at different times.
.
DO NOT IGNORE THESE SYMPTOMS!
Night urinary incontinence is one of the most common urinary tract system problems of childhood. In general, the frequency of children around the age of 5 is quite high, such as 15-20%. 50-60% of children with nighttime urinary incontinence have a family history. The belief that’ 7-10 years of age ‘ can lead to delays in diagnosis and treatment. This delay can also lead to permanent kidney damage in the child.
They note: increased or decreased frequency of urination, continuous urinary incontinence, daytime urinary incontinence, urge urinary hesitancy, with a thin stream of urination, retention of urine maneuvers, fully emptied the bladder, a sense of failure dripping after urination, after being dry for at least 6 months, urinary incontinence, constipation, fecal incontinence, genital or pelvic pain, behavioral problems, attention deficit, learning disabilities…
.
THE CAUSE OF URINARY INCONTINENCE CAN ALSO BE PSYCHOLOGICAL
After experiences that can be jarring, especially for children, the problem of sub-wetting can begin to appear. These experiences can be separation of the child from the person providing basic care, accident, hospitalization, sibling birth, child neglect and abuse, death in the family, divorce, school-related traumas. Some pressure during toilet training can also lead to a problem with bottom wetting. Negatives in the relationship between mother and child, Turkish parents experiencing mental problems can also be effective in the development of the problem of bottom wetting.
Treatment methods: behavioral treatments, drug therapy, neuromodulation, (emptying urine in the bladder with the help of a probe), Botox applications and surgical treatments can be applied. In some children whose only signs are urinary incontinence at night, there may be an incentive to urinate in a pronounced pattern during the day, attention to adequate fluid intake during the day and restriction of fluid intake 1-2 hours before sleep.
