WHEN IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY? WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY?

International Women’s Day began on March 8, 1857, when a group of women workers sought their rights. Women who are working hard in every field to make the world a better place are making efforts to improve the political and social awareness of women on International Women’s Day…

The bullying, injustices and discrimination that women are subjected to on the basis of human rights are expressed on this day. There is also a sad story of International Women’s Day, defined by the United Nations, based on women’s labor. Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world on March 8 every year.

.
WHY IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATED ON MARCH 8?

On March 8, 1857, 40,000 weaving workers in New York City, USA started a strike at a textile factory demanding better working conditions. However, as a result of the police attacking the workers and locking the workers in the factory, and the fire that broke out behind them, the workers could not escape from the barricades set up in front of the factory, 129 workers, most of them women, died. More than 100 thousand people attended the funeral of the workers.

26 – 27 August 1910 in Copenhagen, Denmark, 2. March March 8, 1857, one of the leaders of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, introduced a proposal to celebrate March 8 as International Women’s Day in memory of the women workers who died in the textile factory fire, and the proposal was unanimously adopted.

In the early years, no specific date was set, and it was celebrated on different dates, but always in the spring. The date was determined as March 8, 1921 in Moscow, 3. It took place at the International Women’s Conference. International Women’s Day, which was forbidden to be celebrated in some countries between the years of the First and Second World War, was brought up more decisively at the end of the 1960s, when it also began to be celebrated in the United States. March 16, 1977, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the celebration of March 8 as International Women’s Day. The section on the history of the day on the website of the United Nations did not say that the celebration was held in memory of the workers who died in New York.
