GLAUCOMA LEADS TO BLINDNESS

Turkey Medicals reviewed member and Eye diseases specialist Professor, Head of the Glaucoma unit of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, who pointed out that sneaky progressive glaucoma (eye pressure) causes permanent vision loss Dr. “Therefore, regular eye examination is very important,” was said.

Glaucoma, popularly known as ‘high eye pressure’, is the most common cause of blindness. It is estimated that there are about 2.5 million glaucoma patients in Turkey, while only one out of every 4 patients can be diagnosed.

Head Of The Glaucoma Unit Of The Turkish Ophthalmology Association Eye Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. added that a large part of the patients who are insidious and therefore diagnosed late about glaucoma should be known as follows:

.
WHAT IS GLAUCOMA?

Glaucoma eye laser surgery Antalya and Istanbul Turkey, also known as an increase in eye pressure, is a disease usually characterized by an increase in intraocular pressure. Over time, this can lead to damage to the optic nerve, loss of peripheral vision, and finally blindness. The higher the intraocular pressure, the more likely the optic nerve is to be damaged. Unfortunately, these symptoms are not always noticeable in the patient, and glaucoma is the most common cause of blindness, especially in the elderly. For this reason, it is recommended to have a regular eye examination in Turkey.

.
IN WHO?

The most common type of glaucoma is open-angle or, in other words, insidious glaucoma. It’s usually genetic. Narrow-angle glaucoma, which is rarer, can be seen more often in women and in people with high hypermetropia. Although it is known as an advanced age disease, it can actually occur in young people, children, even newborn babies. Families should be especially careful with single or bilateral large-eyed infants. These babies have excessive watering, discomfort from light, and eye color cannot be selected well. For these symptoms, an ophthalmologist should be consulted immediately.

.
WHAT DISEASE IS IT MIXED WITH?

Open-angle glaucoma is usually detected by chance in patients who come for an eye examination in Antalya Turkey due to another complaint. Many patients usually find out that they have ocular blood pressure when they contact an ophthalmologist for near-visual impairment after the age of 40. In another type of glaucoma, known as narrow-angle glaucoma, patients confuse the symptoms of glaucoma with migraine attacks. Migraine headaches, which are believed to be actually insidious and can lead to blindness over time, can be an eye blood pressure disease.

.
IS IT TREATABLE?

Because the optic nerve is a structure that cannot regenerate itself, losses cannot be restored by intervention, but stopping or worsening the disease can be prevented. For this reason, early diagnosis of this disease, which occurs without symptoms, is very important.
