A LARGE INFLUX OF TOURISTS IS EXPECTED TO ISTANBUL

Over 15 million tourists are expected to come to Istanbul this year, which has experienced an influx of the tourists with the opening of the Turkish tourism and medical season.

While the density around the Topkapi Palace, the Obelisk and the Hagia Sophia Mosque attracts attention in the city where tourists are interested. It has now achieved a near 90 percent occupancy rate from 2,100 hotels. Istanbul Chamber of Commerce President stated that there were no places available in hotels in Istanbul in May according to current reservations, which offers historic peninsula hotels on site, said, “Our prices remained very cheap compared to European countries. For this reason, there is an intensity,” he said.

As the impact of the epidemic decreased, tourists who wanted to spend their summer holidays in Istanbul flocked to the city. According to the data of the Istanbul Directorate of Culture and Tourism, when looking at the distribution of tourists coming to Istanbul by country, the number of tourists coming from Russia increased by 37 percent to 258 thousand, from Iran by 113.2 percent to 253 thousand, the number of visitors from Germany increased by 164.5 percent to 226 thousand in the first 3 months of the year.

More than 15 million domestic and foreign tourists are expected to arrive in the city, which has an official population of 15 million, by the end of the year. According to the Istanbul Chamber of Hoteliers and Tradesmen, the occupancy rate in hotels in this context has reached 90 percent, and a written statement from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce states that there is no room left in the hotels. The tourist density was noticeable around the Topkapi Palace, the Obelisk and the Hagia Sophia Mosque, while tourists were often seen shopping here.

THE NUMBER OF TOURISTS THIS YEAR MAY EXCEED 15 MILLION

Istanbul Chamber of Hoteliers and Tradesmen stated that by the end of the year Istanbul will accommodate as many tourists as its population, “From May onward, a very serious potential has begun to form in Istanbul. Currently, 90 percent of the hotels in Istanbul are full. there are about 2,100 artisan hotels. At the moment, we have achieved a near 90 percent occupancy rate from 2,100 hotels. This will continue like this. The number of tourists coming from Arab countries will increase a lot. As of June, demand will increase very seriously. Reservations have been made to hotels for the month of June, close to 50 percent are full. We don’t see our way very well in terms of reservations, but we know that there is a very serious demand.

June July August September October November is the season of cultural tourism especially in Istanbul, Turkey. We seriously anticipate that there will be occupancy in these months. As occupancy increases, prices also rise as the balance of supply and demand improves. All hotels, which previously fell to 10 euros, accept customers from 45 euros today. I estimate that the number of tourists in Istanbul may exceed 15 million by the end of this year. Hopefully, I thought a lot of this would happen,” he said.

.
CAN’T FIND A PLACE IN HOTELS

Istanbul Chamber of Commerce said that there is no room left in hotels in Istanbul, “According to the current reservations, there is no room in the hotels in Istanbul in May. Many hotels are already full and the total occupancy rate has reached 98 percent. June and July, we see that this interest continues. The occupancy rate of hotels reached 92 percent in March, which is described as the deadliest season in Istanbul. This rate was not caught even in the pre-epidemic period,” was said.

.
PRICES HAVE REMAINED VERY CHEAP COMPARED TO EUROPE

President of Old City Hoteliers Platform, which has 400 hotels, said that there was a high concentration of bookings made due to the very affordable hotel prices, “This year was a year when we expected to set a record, but the war between Russia and Ukraine reduced our expectation. Our hotels have not yet been able to replace Russian tourists. Russian and Ukrainian tourists were very beneficial to our hotels. Although European tourists are coming this year, there will be very few coming. 10 Percent of the past years will come. We were glad that European tourists would come, but they have not yet met that demand.

However, compared to the pandemic period, our hotel occupancy is very good. this will make us happy if we capture the number of tourists in 2019. At the moment, our occupancy rates are around 70 percent. Our expectations are high. If the war ends, our hotels will catch occupancy levels at 100 percent. Our prices have remained very cheap compared to European countries. For this reason, there is an intensity. in 2019, we welcomed 15 million tourists, in 2020 it fell to 1 million 800 thousand, in 2021 we caught 6 million. We think that we will be happy if we can catch 15 million this year,” was told.
