MEASURES TO PROTECT AGAINST FACIAL PARALYSIS

With the increasing use of air conditioning, the danger of facial paralysis is increasing. Turkey Medicals listed the ways to protect yourself from this danger…

Cooling off in front of the air conditioner or different coolers on hot summer days, especially after showering and when sweating, can trigger the risk of facial paralysis. Not only in the home environment, taking a shower and cooling off with the air conditioner in the car after going out can also create the basis for this problem. When taking advantage of the refreshing effect of the air conditioner, it is vital to follow some rules. The use of air conditioning, will increase, especially because the air temperatures are high during the Eid holiday journey.

.
SYMPTOMS APPEAR ON ONE SIDE OF THE FACE

Facial paralysis is the inability to move november or all of the facial muscles. As a result of the influence of nerve fibers coming to the face, loss of muscle movement in the mimic muscles of the face occurs. In this health problem, which can be seen at any age; the patient cannot raise his eyebrow, close his eye and move his mouth. These symptoms appear only from one side of the face. Depending on the symptoms associated with nerve damage, mimic loss also occurs. As well as all these symptoms; problems such as facial pain, headache and dizziness, ear pain, tinnitus, sensitivity to sound, difficulty speaking, inability to hold saliva also occur.

.
WHAT CAUSES FACIAL PARALYSIS?

Facial paralysis is caused by a disease of the facial nerve. The facial nerve is one of the nerves that comes directly out of the brain and is called the “seventh nerve”. Its name in medicine is “facial paralysis”, that is, immobility. Facial paralysis also occurs when the facial nerve is pressed for some reason. If the facial paralysis has started suddenly and the patient has no previous complaints, it is called “peripheral facial paralysis”, aka “bell’s palsy”. Although the cause of the problem is not known for sure, it is known that exposure to cold air and wind in winter is effective. In summer, it is observed due to improper use of the air conditioner or different coolants. Facial paralysis can occur at once, as well as occur due to infections and trauma.

.
IS THERE A CURE FOR FACIAL PARALYSIS?

Facial paralysis is tried to be eliminated by special treatments related to them after the underlying causes are determined. Additional findings may also be observed for the reasons leading to the problem. After all this evaluation, the treatment program also takes shape. In case of sudden facial paralysis, the patient is given high-dose cortisone therapy in the first days. Then the treatment is completed by gradually reducing the dose of cortisone. Drug therapy is determined based on the state of damage to the facial nerve. If the formation of facial paralysis was caused by causes such as infection and trauma, the course of treatment becomes different. If the patient has a chronic disease such as diabetes, a special treatment program is again applied to this group of patients.

.
THE PLACE OF AESTHETIC OPERATIONS IN TREATMENT

Of the facial paralysis cases 90 percent recover within a month. This period may be prolonged in patients with excessive nerve damage and who have not been diagnosed at an early stage. The condition of not getting better at all can be observed in 1-2 percent of the population. If the patient does not recover within six months, aesthetic operations may come into play.

.
TO PROTECT AGAINST FACIAL PARALYSIS

– Avoid direct exposure to air conditioning and wind in the car or office in summer, when you are sweaty. Sudden changes in temperature lead to the formation of edema of the facial nerve and facial paralysis.

– If an air-conditioned environment is to be entered after taking a shower, the hair and face should be thoroughly dried.

– Do not go out with wet hair.

– If the car is to be boarded after taking a shower, the windows of the car should not be kept open.

– If air conditioning is to be used in the car, indirect cooling should be done first. In other words, before starting the air conditioner, the doors and windows of the car should be kept open for a while and the air conditioning should be switched on after cooling the environment.

– After this stage, exposure to the wind of the car air conditioner, especially the face area, should be avoided.

– Attention should be paid to sudden heat changes. Taking precautions when entering an extremely cool environment from an extremely hot environment is the most important way to protect against facial paralysis.
