HOW SHOULD CHILD IN TURKEY EAT HEALTHILY?

Nutrition and diet expert sample, who noted that the frequency of obesity in children also increased due to nutritional errors in the epidemic process, gave important advice to families on this issue.

The pandemic in Turkey changed Turkish life and foreigner residence habits, from small to large. Especially staying at home for a long time brought problems such as inactivity and unhealthy eating. I asked nutrition and dietitian sample on how we should follow Turkish nutrition to keep children’s immunity in Turkey strong these days and protect them from obesity.

Here are their answers. Turkey Medicals member Turkish Nutrition and Diet Specialist  in Turkey gives us important tips and examples;

.
TURKISH MEDITERRANEAN BREAKFAST IS VERY IMPORTANT

– Parents should also be role models for their children in nutrition. At Turkish home, meal times should not change, family should sit at the table. Breakfast is a very important meal for children. Eggs are quality protein. You can try various omelettes with cheese/vegetables. You can make french toast. Freshly squeezed orange juice will be very useful in terms of the immune strengthening effect of vitamin C and increasing iron absorption. For children who do not like eggs, you can also prepare eggs as pancakes by whisking them with milk and flour.

.
TURKISH RURAL MOUNTAIN WATER INSTEAD OF JUNK FOOD

– The child should have water, not snacks, in front of the screen. Healthy snacks such as fruit, walnuts/nuts/almonds should be given between the rest and not during the course.

– Foreigner children usually do not prefer the appearance of vegetables made in a saucepan in a watery state. You can try to cook the vegetables by chopping them and blending them with eggs, a little flour, spices and maybe a little mince. In this way, the food you prepare can become more attractive with its resemblance to a pie. You can also serve vegetables in soup. For example, there may be various colored vegetables hidden in lentil soup.
And don’t forget the fish

– Consume fish 2-3 times a week. Cook the fish in the oven, as frying will reduce the Omega-3 value of the fish. A balanced diet is provided if you define red meat 2 times a week, pulses 2 times, other meals as a vegetable dish. Milk and dairy products will be enough on average 2 times a day.

– You can differentiate dry or fresh fruits by blenderizing them with yogurt or milk, oatmeal, walnuts. You can convert snacks such as cakes/cookies into almond flour/chickpea flour, and for sweet aroma, you can also make them healthy using molasses/honey/dried fruits. Pumpkin dessert and milk desserts may be preferred. They might like to dip tangerine slices in melted chocolate. Of course, being healthy does not give unlimited freedom of consumption. Therefore, 1 portion per day of these recipes will be enough.

– In the process, we should also try to diversify home activities with children. Activities that we can prioritize physical activity, such as dancing, jumping rope, will be useful.
