IS YOUR CHILD’S DISEASE ALLERGY OR COVID-19?

Recently, a runny nose and nasal congestion in children cause families to fear coronavirus. Covid-19, in Turkey whose symptoms are similar to flu in winter, is now mistaken for an allergy. Runny nose and congestion, common in children, cause families to worry about ‘I wonder Covid-19′.

Turkey Medicals member and Child Health and diseases/child allergy-immunology specialist Prof. Dr. listed the differences between the two diseases as follows:

.
HOW IS IT DISTINGUISHED?

Covid-19 has common and distinct characteristics with allergy. First, Covid-19 can have a high fever, not allergies. This is the most important differential diagnosis part. Covid-19 may have a very serious sore throat, burning, throat burning and pain in allergies is not an expected symptom. Clear runny nose is observed in allergies, Covid-19 usually does not have runny nose. But recently, only patients who complain of nasal congestion caused by different variants can also be seen. Most importantly, patients with Covid-19 experience severe novelization, weakness, fatigue. Allergies don’t cause a very serious muscle pain.Nov. Covid-19 can also be seen in children with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea. Children with respiratory allergies do not expect diarrhea, vomiting. These are the most important distinguishing features of Covid-19 and allergies.

.
THESE DRUGS SHOULD BE USED

In allergic colds, it is preferable to clean the nose with saline solution and, if necessary, use allergy medications in the form of nasal sprays. For asthma patients, it is also recommended to use oral sprays. Antihistamines are only used for allergic colds or eye flu, they have no therapeutic properties for asthma.

.
IMPORTANT WARNINGS

The days we are in are pollen season, especially when Meadow pollen is released in abundance. Meadow pollen is released very intensively from morning to noon. For this reason, the windows should not be opened until noon after waking up in the morning. The masks we use for Covid-19 when we go out are an advantage, as they also prevent pollen from entering our nose. At the same time, wearing trench hats prevents pollen from hitting the eye and face. When entering the house, we recommend removing clothes, washing children’s hands and faces at least, taking a warm shower. Again, during this period, we can suggest that they do not go to picnic areas, playgrounds where there are newly grown or planted grass, meadows. If these measures are not enough, we want families to reach out to their doctors. We recommend it specifically with Serum physiologic. If these are not enough, of course, it will be appropriate to use the medications recommended by their doctors in Turkey for a short period of time, during the pollen season.
