THE TECHNIQUE DEVELOPED BY THE TURKISH PHYSICIAN ENTERED THE LITERATURE; IT BECAME AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE PACEMAKER

Turkey Medicals member and JCI hospital head of department Turkish Cardiologist Professor Doctor’s new technique called ‘Cardioneuroablation’, which he described as an ‘ablation treatment option’ without the need to install a pacemaker to treat young patients under the age of 40 with complaints of heart conduction defects and fainting, has entered the world literature.

They applied the treatment method in 500 patients, including pregnant people, in Turkey, Prof. Dr. said they have achieved close to 100 percent success. Prof. Dr. stated that the new technique, which he and his team have been working on for 7 years, was published as a research article in the most prestigious and high-impact arrhythmia journal Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology in the world.

THE TECHNIQUE WAS FIRST APPLIED IN 2014

Stating that there is a need to find an alternative treatment method that is less interventional for many years, an Expert in audiology Prof. Dr. “We first applied the technique to a patient in 2014. Important for us was the installation of a pacemaker, especially in young patients under the age of 40 who complained of fainting due to cardiac arrest. Installing a pacemaker requires a surgical procedure. Because a certain incision was made in the body and the battery generator had to be installed. We were sending various cables from this generator to the inside of the heart. After that, patients were not supposed to move much for about 3 months. Young female patients also had concerns about such a cut visually. Since we have seen an increase in heart rate after some ablations we have done, we have thought and tried to make this a technique that other doctors can apply universally,”he said. Prof., who published his first studies on international success in 2015 Doctor, “The first case in which we applied the technique was selected as the ‘best case’ at the congress of the European Arrhythmia Society in Nice, France. That was the initial stage of our journey. The following year, at a meeting of the Heart Rhythm Society of America, we presented the results of 16 cases conducted to this day. We’ve had some pretty exciting feedback. Then, in 2017, I made a live case in Prague in another country for the first time. We have shared with other electrophysiology and arrhythmia physicians how to treat these cases. As our knowledge about the method has increased, we have had the opportunity to tell doctors from different parts of the world about this method online and face to face,” he said.

PUBLISHED IN CIRCULATION: ARRHYTHMIA AND ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY

“In patients have problems with conduction between the atria and ventricles of the heart, which is the most difficult group among the patient groups. We have published the information that this technique can be used in Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, the world’s highest impact arrhythmia journal,’ said Prof. Dr. said, ‘It made a big noise all over the world because there have been case reports about the disease to date. However, for the first time, all the data were presented in the form of an original research paper. We also follow the patients to whom we have applied this technique, and he was also included in the article,” he said. A NEW TREATMENT OPTION WITHOUT INSTALLING A PACEMAKER is a cardiac arrest that faints, so about 20-30 percent of patients who need to install a pacemaker have a treatment option only by ablation without installing a pacemaker and leaving a permanent scar, said Cardiologist Prof. Dr. “With the ablation process, we can evaluate and treat the patient’s heart in a three-dimensional way. In fact, we have developed a technique to find the malfunctioning working parts of the nervous system that cause a low heart rate. We are able to do this without requiring a lot of high-budget transplant equipment and devices. Of course, an experienced electrophysiologist who has been trained in this subject can apply the method anywhere in the world,” he said.

.
PATIENTS ARE BEING MONITORED; PATIENT SELECTION IS IMPORTANT

Stressing that this technique is not applied to every patient, Prof. Dr. said, “We started applying the technique to patients in 2014. Therefore, we have tracking data for more than 7 years. We have never had a patient who needed a pacemaker inserted after ablation. But I must emphasize that a pacemaker is a life-saving treatment. In some patients, ablation may not be an option. We do not apply this method to every patient. Especially in young patients, we can now get successful results in the long term with the ablation method without installing a pacemaker,” he said. PEOPLE RETURN TO THEIR NORMAL LIVES THE NEXT DAY without installing a pacemaker, explaining that the patient who uses this method does not need to restrict his movements, Prof. Dr. said, “When we install a pacemaker, we ask the patient not to do some movements such as lying down and lifting, especially for the first 1 month. The day after the ablation, the patient continues his life normally. He can walk, run, do whatever he wants. We can say that the new method of treatment in suitable patients is an alternative to the pacemaker. I have given speeches about the method at over 10 scientific congresses this year. It is also spoken as an alternative in different countries of the world. We have a higher chance of treating young patients by using this method without installing a pacemaker than older patients. It’s not a very painful procedure, it’s done comfortably. But this method cannot be applied in every hospital without a three-dimensional mapping system or a specialist with high experience in this regard,” he said.

.
THE METHOD IS AIMED AT USING ALL OVER THE WORLD

After trying, everything will happen, said Prof. Dr. said, “My goal is to ensure that this technique is applied all over the world. I also want patients from different geographies to access this treatment method. The pandemic has given us a number of advantages online. To date, we have applied the treatment method to 500 patients in Turkey. It’s a team effort and we’re working with a very good team. This is one of the most important reasons for the success we have achieved,” he said.

.
HE EXPLAINED THE TECHNIQUE AT IMPORTANT CONGRESSES ABROAD

A Cardiologist who says he is proud of Prof. Dr. said, “Considering the year 2022, I was invited to the meeting of the Heart Rhythm Society of America for the third time. The important thing here is that we get a chance to tell our own technique in America. The Society is the largest rhythm disturbance platform in America. I gave speeches at the general cardiology congresses of America and explained the technique. It is obviously a pleasure to have created the alternative treatment method accepted by the world and to be able to present it scientifically by filling in the gold. It is flattering for me to show that this will also be done from Turkey,” he said.
