LIPOSUCTION IS NOT A WEIGHT LOSS METHOD

MEN PREFER IT AS MUCH AS WOMEN

Liposuction, usually known as a method of losing weight, is actually aimed at giving shape to the body. Liposuction surgery, which is defined as the removal of body fat in Turkey by being absorbed under negative pressure through a special hose, is usually performed for the waist and dec areas of women, while it has also started to gain attention among men in recent years.

Turkey Medicals member and a specialist in Turkish Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, who drew attention to the fact that liposuction, performed locally in small cases and under general anesthesia in larger cases, is used as an auxiliary treatment in aesthetic surgeries, Prof. Dr. said, “First, regional markings are made on the patient and the areas where the oils will be removed are determined. The patient undergoing surgery is given a special liquid to break down the adipose tissue somewhat, allowing the procedure to pass with as little bleeding and pain as possible. After the operation, which is usually performed by entering through small holes of 3-4 mm, a pressure corset is attached to the patient for the first month. However, in addition to the classical application, successful results are obtained in liposuction with laser and vaser methods, where the risk of bleeding and pain complaints are much lower,” he said.

SCREENING AND INFORMATION BEFORE LIPOSUCTION SURGERY IS VERY IMPORTANT

While the burning of fats with light is involved in laser application, vazerde says that the burning of fats through sound waves is achieved with ultrasound, and the purpose of both applications is to speed up the recovery process after surgery, Prof. Dr. said, “Laser vaser methods for liposuction, especially in men, on the abdomen and chest, give quite successful results. The important point here is that the person needs to be evaluated very well before the operation, and it is important that the person is informed in the most accurate way about what the results will be,” he said.

LIPOSUCTION IS NOT A METHOD OF LOSING WEIGHT

Prof. Dr. said that the liposuction method alone is not enough to lose weight, “Liposuction is not specifically a weight loss method, but it has a styling purpose. This information should be given to the person before the operation. For example, in patients with loose and very soft subcutaneous tissue in the abdomen or pelvis, the patient should be told that the tightening required by liposuction will not occur. For example, some overweight patients have areas that cannot be touched surgically, such as intra-abdominal lubrication. While belly fat can be removed (the thickness of 3-4 cm in this area can be reduced to 1 cm), intra-abdominal fat cannot be touched and therefore there may not be a chance to get an ideal flat stomach. For such patients, they are provided with weight loss after surgery with special dietary recommendations. As the body begins to reshape, the body’s memory also appears with weight loss, eliminating some of the irregularities that may appear after surgery in the patient. For this reason, we cannot say that an ideal result is obtained with liposuction alone,” he warned.
