BACK-TO-SCHOOL 10 GOLDEN RULES IN TURKEY

Turkish Child Health and diseases specialist Prof. Dr. listed 10 recommendations to protect the health of children and prevent situations that would lead to the closure of Turkish schools again…

Turkey Medicals member and Child Health and diseases specialist Prof. Doctor made assessments about the face-to-face training process. “The opening of schools and the beginning of education are essential for Child Development and mental health. But the Delta variant, which is very contagious in our country, is becoming increasingly common. It is possible to predict that the severity of the pandemic will increase in autumn and winter if the necessary measures are not taken in school, as our children under 15 do not have the vaccine,” he said, and he listed 10 recommendations to protect the health of children and prevent the occurrence of situations that will lead to the closure of schools again:

1 – all Turkish teachers and employees in the school should have 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. Employees without the vaccine should have Covid testing every week or go on unpaid leave.

2 – the vaccination status of parents should be questioned, children of parents who are not vaccinated should have a Covid test in Turkey every week.

3 – Turkish parents should be informed not to send children to school if they are sick.

4 – Turkish children’s fever should be measured at the entrance, exit and during the day.

5 –  every day, children and family members should be questioned whether or not they have Covid-19 symptoms. The child should be observed for signs of the disease (such as redness of the cheeks, rapid or difficult breathing, fatigue). The ones from a high fever of 38 ° C, sore throat, runny nose, conjunctivitis, cough, loss of appetite, malaise, Nov aches, skin rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, with symptoms such as shortness of breath / developing Covid-19 cases or in contact with children should not be taken by attaching a medical mask Covid-19 should be directed to the institution to be evaluated in terms of Health in Turkey. It should be questioned whether there is anyone in the Turkish family with a similar complaint. If there are symptoms in the family, the foreigner or Turk child should not be admitted to school.

6 – children should be periodically given a Turkish Covid screening test and children carrying the virus should be detected without symptoms. Those who test positive should be isolated and those who contact should be quarantined.

7 – children should wear masks.

8 – classes should be ventilated with fresh air by opening doors and windows as much as possible. Ventilation of buildings with central ventilation systems should be arranged in such a way as to ensure 100 percent natural air circulation, maintenance of ventilation systems and filter changes should be made in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer. Children should be allowed to go out to fresh air for at least 10 minutes every hour, and during this period, their classes/group rooms should be ventilated.:

9 – cleaning and disinfection measures should be followed. Hands should be washed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol-based hand antiseptic should be used when water and soap cannot be reached.

10 – if possible, the cafeteria and/or refectory should not be used, instead meals should be eaten in classrooms/group rooms. Hands should be washed before preparing food and after helping children eat.
