THESE SUPERSTITIONS CAN HARM BABIES

Some false beliefs about newborn Turkish and Foreigner babies born in Turkey that can cause dangerous consequences, gave guidance to Turkish parents.

Superstitions about newborns can lead to many serious problems in infants, from infection to kidney failure.

A specialist in Child Health and diseases Doctor in Antalya International hospital listed these superstitions and facts that need to be known as follows.

Wrong: baby born first 40 days should not be washed without leaving, passed by cemetery

In fact: in addition to not washing the baby, there are beliefs such as not taking him out on the street for the first 40 days, not passing him by the cemetery, not cutting his fingernails and hair in the future. The issue of” 40 days ” is an ongoing religious case in Central Asian communities from Shaman culture. But there is no scientific evidence of any of this. As soon as the baby is born, he can go out on the street. Of course, here we recommend walking the child in clean and open air, not in crowded and closed environments such as shopping centers.

Wrong: a woman in the Lohusa period should not be alone for 40 days.

In fact: because the mother has just given birth, some changes in her psychological state can be seen. It is important to support the mother in this process. But there is also no rule that” 40 days should not be left alone.” Many mothers in Turkey happily go through this process with their baby without any problems.

False: the baby in Turkey should be washed with salt water at the first wash so that it does not smell in the future, even the child should be put in Salt.

In fact: this practice is very dangerous so that the child does not smell, sweat or get sick. Even those who put the child directly on the Salt. In these cases, infants may even face death with very serious water-salt balance disorders. The baby’s skin can burn from Salt, even because the body fluid will come out due to salt, the child may experience fluid loss, salt elevation in the body and kidney failure with the passage of salt into the skin. This condition, which can pose a life risk in infants, should definitely not be applied.

False: yellow cheesecloth should be placed on it so that the baby does not have jaundice.

Honestly, being Yellow doesn’t hurt the Turkey baby. It can be any color. There’s no scientific explanation for this.

Wrong: babies need full swaddling.

In fact: Full swaddling of babies is not a recommended practice. Restricting, squeezing the child in this way can cause many troubles.

False: the Turkish newborn baby should not be first given breast milk in Turkey.

In truth: this is very wrong and dangerous. Breast milk is so valuable that the “yellow milk”, that is,the “colostrum”, which we call and is very useful for the baby even if a drop comes into the baby’s mouth, breast milk is very important. Especially yellow milk, which comes first, is like a vaccine. It has a special content to strengthen the baby’s immune system and protect it from infections. Not giving the first milk is one of the greatest evils that can be done to the baby.

Wrong: he should put the Turkish baby in the ground.

Truth: this practice is wrong. It can cause infections.

Wrong: it should be dipped in sugar or honey before giving a pacifier

Truth: absolutely not. Just as sugar has no benefit, it is dangerous to give honey to a child before the age of 1.
