SEDATION IS THE IDEAL SOLUTION IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF THE DENTIST CLINIC

When oral and dental health is neglected, it also brings many different health problems. If you have a Turkish dentist phobia and need to be treated as soon as possible, try the sedation method in Turkey.

You can’t devote time to your oral and dental health due to the intensity of work, but you also need treatment very much. On top of that, if you are also afraid, sedation is ideal for you. All your treatments can be finished without nightmares in one go.

What is sedation?

The anesthesia method used for all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in which you are not asked to feel pain, be mobile or awake is called sedation. Unlike general anesthesia, usually the patient is conscious. Sedation can be applied in the operating room, outpatient clinic or office by an anesthesiologist or a physician trained in the practice of sedation.

To whom and how can it be applied?

It is a very effective method for people who are afraid of dentists and needles. It can be safely applied to people in a wide age group, from a newborn baby to an adult at an advanced age. The frequency of its use is gradually increasing, especially in children. In order for sedation to be performed safely, the patient must stop eating and drinking two hours before the procedure begins. Although it is a method that is usually applied by administering sedation drugs intravenously or by drinking medication / syrup orally, sometimes anesthesia gases can also be inhaled with a face mask. During the application of sedation, the oxygen level in the blood, heart rate and blood pressure are constantly monitored by the doctor, if necessary, oxygen is supplied with an oxygen mask. In addition to the application, it is also important to remove sedation from the person. Sedation is removed from the person in a controlled manner. The effect of chemicals that have been used for sedation on a person’s body gradually decreases and disappears.

.
A PERSON CAN RETURN TO WORK

What are the areas of application?

Sedation is most often used in dentistry, endoscopic procedures, radiological imaging methods, as well as in procedures that require immobilization for a while.

How does a person feel during and after sedation?

According to the amount of drugs administered, we can roughly divide sedation into conscious sedation and deep sedation. During conscious sedation, the patient’s consciousness is clear, he understands and applies what has been said, his excitement and pain associated with the procedure have decreased. He will have a pleasant time during the procedure. If the doses of the drug are slightly increased, deep sedation occurs, the person goes into a state of sleep. He becomes unaware of what is happening around, and when he wakes up at the end of the procedure, he feels as if he has woken up from a nap. Since mostly short-acting drugs are used, the person wakes up within 5-10 minutes after the procedure and feels as if no medication has been given after about half an hour, but the drowsiness due to sedation can last up to two to four hours. A person can return to work during the day. Although he feels very well, because there may be a slowdown in his reflexes after both methods of sedation, patients are advised not to do things that require attention, such as driving a car.

.
IT IS ALSO SAFE FOR THE PHYSICIAN

Is sedation a safe method?

Like any medical procedure, this procedure has some risks, but if the necessary security measures are taken, the likelihood of any negative consequences is very small. When sedation is applied to people, breathing continues, so it is an extremely comfortable method for patients. After general anesthesia, the patient takes a long time to recover, while at the end of treatment in sedation, the patient is comfortable to come to his senses and continue his daily work.

What are the advantages?

Sedation is an easy and safe method of application. It also prevents psychological traumas that may occur with treatment. It is a very advantageous treatment method because the person will feel like he is in a dream during the treatment and will not feel pain. At the same time, it also provides a safer environment for the doctor because it terminates the person’s reflexes during treatment.

.
IS GENERAL ANESTHESIA RISKY?

Contrary to popular belief, all kinds of risks that may occur due to newly developed systems and drugs have been minimized. During the treatment, all the vital functions of the patient are kept under control by an anesthesiologist. After the end of treatment, the patient is awakened, discharged after a few hours of rest. Depending on the dental treatment performed, he may return to his daily life the next day.

.
NO STRESS, BLOOD PRESSURE DOES NOT RISE

Is regional anesthesia needed during sedation?

Sedation does not prevent the patient from feeling pain. If the patient is needed after sedation, anesthesia should be performed necessarily. At this time, the patient is relieved of his worries and is eligible to cooperate. Since stress does not occur, sugar and blood pressure problems can be treated without problems in patients. Sedation is an unique option, especially in patients with high blood pressure and high blood sugar who are coming out with stress. Fainting, vomiting or fatigue are not observed during the procedure. The patient does not remember anything that was done during the operation, including anesthesia. Since he cannot remember the pain that has occurred, the voice, anything that he does not like, there is no traumatic effect after it. All operations inside the mouth can be completed in one session. Especially in children, the dentist phobia that may occur after the procedure is prevented. This will facilitate the patient’s arrival for dental treatment in later sessions. As soon as the drug is discontinued, its effects on the patient begin to decrease, the patient can be sent home without problems after resting. The procedure is not addictive, it can be repeated as needed. It can be used extremely safely both in adults and in children. No known side effect.

Can general anesthesia be preferred at the request of the patient?

General anesthesia will be a very good opportunity for delayed treatments to be completed in just one session, especially for people who cannot devote a long time to their own health due to a busy work life. In such cases, it is possible to do all the fillings, canal treatments, gum treatments that need to be done by putting the patient to sleep.
