Turkey Medicals member and Plastic Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. tells the details in our news..

Who is authorized to make which application in aesthetic procedures? Who should I contact if there is a problem? From time to time, we doctors also draw attention to this issue in the media. Such news is usually made on a procedure or complication, the result of which is not liked, which is reflected in the press. There is a confusion of concepts about aesthetic procedures. This confusion and lack of information is really annoying, it has sad consequences. In this news, we briefly explain the topic for readers:

1- Procedures such as botox, filler, PRP, mesotherapy, skin peeling such as chemical peeling and laser applications (including laser hair removal) performed by injection in places such as beauty salons, beauty centers cannot be performed. In these places, skin care, body care, IPL, as well as skin renewal with energy-based systems that are unlikely to cause harm, such as passive gymnastics, can be performed.

2- Injection procedures such as botox, filler can only be performed in the office, outpatient clinic, medical center and hospitals. Applications such as laser, ultrasound, radiofrequency, dermaroller, dermapen should only be applied in these places.

3- Operations with an injector and powerful energy-based systems such as laser/radiofrequency should be performed by a competent, qualified doctor in the field of aesthetic applications.

4- The branches that receive specialized training for all non-surgical aesthetic procedures on the face and body are plastic surgeons and dermatology specialists. These are the branches that will also treat problems that may occur in this area.

5- Physicians of other branches, if they are included in their curriculum, may perform aesthetic procedures, provided that they are limited to their own regions.

6- In the past, a limited number of physicians have been awarded the title of “medical aesthetic physician” by participating in a certificate program organized by the Ministry of Health. These physicians can perform injected procedures such as botox, fillers, and use energy-based systems.

7- These certifications are actually one of the biggest reasons for the confusion. Because these certificates are no longer issued by the Ministry. Currently, a general practitioner who has been trained in filling for three days can also call himself a medical aesthetic doctor, although he does not have legal authority to perform these operations. A significant part of the problems is caused by the practices of physicians in this position, even non-physicians.

8- It is possible for patients to understand who is an expert and who is not, but through diploma control, workplace license control. Most patients don’t do this research either, they can see enough of the application images they see on Instagram. Investigating the educational and specialized status of the person to whom we entrust our face is the most serious measure to protect against negative consequences.

9- If a complication develops in the applications and the practitioner is not a plastic surgeon, dermatologist or a competent specialist in this regard, the procedures performed to correct the problem may aggravate the problem. Patients should find out what brand /content of the procedure is performed for them, especially when applying hyaluronic acid fillers. This information is needed in case of any complications. In the face of an extraordinary reaction /development, the doctors to be referred should be plastic surgery, dermatology specialists or competent and competent experts in this regard.

Please pay attention to where your procedure is performed, by whom, the competence and experience of the practicing physician. First health, then beauty.
